I’m excited to announce that Nymphs & Thugs are launching a new quarterly spoken word night in Leeds on Thursday 15 February, with Maria Ferguson and Toria Garbutt as the featured acts.
The ‘SOAPBOX at Seven’ night takes it’s name from N&T’s quarterly spoken word zine, and will aim to use the UK’s hottest spoken word talent to bridge the North/South divide. Far too many London poets rarely gig up north, and vice versa, and so the aim is to have a sister night in place in the capital by the end of the year.
I’ll be hosting this first event, and there are open mic slots available. It’s a Pay What You Feel event, with a suggested donation of £10 (£5 NUS). There’s a Facebook event here.
Maria and Toria are two of my favourite poets in the UK right now, and I’m confident that they’ll blow your socks off. I’m really proud to have put this together, and can’t wait to see it develop…
