As I’m sure you’re aware, yesterday was National Poetry Day 2019. NPD is a little bit like Christmas for us poets – it’s the one day a year when we’re almost certain to be working, and when everybody pays poetry a lot more attention than usual.
This year, Blue Peter’s live episode was an NPD special, and I was chuffed to bits to be invited into the show. Along with four specially selected pupils from Webster Primary, I wrote a poem live on air using five words which had been submitted by CBBC viewers. I also performed a special BP poem which I’d written, which was good enough to earn me a badge.
