Since the turn of the year, I’ve been lucky enough to spend some time in the Archives at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley. And as well as writing my own responses to the Archive materials, I’ve been developing prompts and writing exercises so that you can get involved as well.

I’ll be delivering an in-person workshop in the Sunny Bank Mills Gallery & Cafe on Thursday 24 March. And then an online workshop, from Sunny Bank Mills, on Thursday 31 March. Both are free to attend and will take place between 6.30-8pm.

Creative Writing workshops with Sunny Bank Mills

The idea of the sessions is to help participants respond to Archive materials and local heritage in general. Whether it’s unearthing hidden stories or responding to well-known events and characters. Some of the exercises may feel poetry-led but all forms of creative writing are encouraged.

After the workshops, there’ll be an opportunity for participants to share their responses in a range of ways (more info to follow soon). But there’ll be zero expectation or obligation! I want these sessions to be as relaxed as possible and they’re open to writers of all abilities and levels of experience.

Anyway, that’s enough waffling for now. The workshops are being produced in partnership with LEEDS 2023, and you can sign up below…
