“A contemporary spoken soul breathing new life into performance poetry for children” Eastfield Primary School
Since the summer of 2013, I’ve been delivering a range of spoken word and poetry workshops to a wide variety of groups. Since spring 2015, my main focus has been primary groups, although I’m just as happy to teach secondary, FE or non-formal groups across all ages.
As well as mainstream and home education groups, I’ve also worked with refugees and asylum seekers, homeless charities and youth offending teams. I’ve also worked with a range of arts festivals to run workshops for adult non-formal groups, and can delivery both writing and performance-based sessions.
“Matt came in to work with our Y3 children; his poetry work was very engaging & allowed the children to develop their own ideas. This was clear as their work during the English poetry unit was of a very high standard. I’d recommend Matt to any teacher looking to get children interested in poetry” Warwick Road Primary School
As of April 2015, I’ve been a resident creative practitioner at The Hepworth Wakefield, and as of February 2017, I’m the official Poet-in-Residence at the National Coal Mining Museum for England. Other clients include Leeds Waterfront Festival, Wakefield Lit Fest, Leeds Art Gallery, Tees Valley Arts, Foundation Futures and Theatre Royal Wakefield.
I am happy to tailor bespoke sessions according to topics, themes, abilities, backgrounds and desired outcomes. I offer half and full day rates, and discounts for block bookings. Please contact me at eyup@mattabbottpoet.com for further information.
